The stunning Boho Chic Wedding of Sam and Michael took place in April, fittingly on Earth day. Coolibah Downs in Nerang was chosen as the venue, as the couple loved the garden setting and were more than happy that their guests could share in their day and not have to travel to the reception. Win!
Sam loves to DIY, so almost all the decorations were lovingly made by her (or family members) over the few months prior to the big day. Even the succulents given as gifts to the guests were grown by her uncle and friends of the Maid of Honour, with Sam and Michael growing more from cuttings (which is a great personal touch) , all used to style the ceremony and reception areas. The fresh greens and natural timber tones used were understated yet elegant, just like the couple.
Michael is a super keen fisherman, so this was incorporated into the day via his excellent choice of socks and some very unique cufflinks, which apparently took months to track down. I love when a couple puts personal touches like this into their wedding. It makes it more memorable, and certainly more fun for me! Bring out the crazy cufflinks I say!
So a beautiful ceremony was performed, some gorgeous photos were taken (while some serious fun was had and one particular kookaburra was kept at bay – no kookaburras were harmed during the making of these photos), and a wonderful reception followed. What more could you ask for? Oh, there was cake too. CAKE!

Mercedes and Greg are really excellent people. I love a good sense of humour, and I wasn’t disappointed when I rocked up to shoot their pretty awesome rainbow carnival themed wedding at Braeside Chapel on the Gold Coast. From the gold plated toilet seat wedding present to the killer tunes belted out (Love Shack) by the Bride and Groom on the Karaoke machine as voted by their guests, this wedding was not short of laughter, or fun, or anything else you might consider awesome. Kombi van = check. Sparklers = check. Ridiculous face pulling = double check. I freaking love these guys! Laughs were had, drinks were consumed, day was enjoyed. What more could you want in a wedding? Oh, and they decided on a first look too which is always great!
One of my favourite moments? The quick dash to the bedside of Mercedes’ grandma, who would have loved to witness the ceremony but was unfortunately too ill to attend (images have not been published out of respect for the family) right before the ceremony. It was lovely to witness.
I hope you enjoy this DIY piece of rainbow fabulousness. Here is the wedding of Mercedes and Greg.

Katie-Marie and Daemen are awesome. I met them at a bridal expo and knew we’d get on like a house on fire as soon as I noticed Katie-Marie’s pin-up style. They met at a ballroom dancing competition, which sounds out of the ordinary but for the daughter of a dance champion (Mark Wilson) it’s completely normal!
After a couple of years of courtship when it finally came to getting married, Katie-Marie and Daemen wanted to incorporate their style and the things they love into their day. So, a 50’s vintage retro style ballroom inspired theme it was (with a little kitsch thrown in for good measure)!
The entire day was held at the property of a family friend in the Gold Coast hinterland, and it was amazing. Katie-Marie and Daemen were married in the gazebo on the terrace in front of their family and friends, we had photos in and around the property, and the reception was held in the 50’s inspired bar area and patio overlooking the lights of the Gold Coast.
Let’s talk about Vintage retro wedding attire. When Katie-Marie said she was going to wear a ballgown I imagined a white ballroom inspired gown, but when she showed me the peach diamonte encrusted piece of fabulousness (an actual tailored ballgown) she was actually wearing I almost died of excitement. Wow. Just wow. And to top it all off, she chose a 50’s style hat with veil to match which just made the whole outfit (ballroom shoes and all) complete. The boys wore a blue suit with black piping and braces and the bridesmaids were fabulous in a mismatched blue floral print dress with petticoat and classic white pumps. Katie-Marie opted for silk corsages for the girls and a mix of peach white and blue silk flowers for her bouquet.
A few things I loved about Katie-Marie and Daemen’s vintage retro wedding:
- Their celebrant Marilyn got in on the action and not only wore a retro dress but helped the couple incorporate the vows of Elvis and Priscilla into their ceremony
- They included both a Catholic and Greek orthodox element into their ceremony to honour each family’s background
- The boys wore red/white striped socks which may or may not have been bought at McDonalds (love that!)
- Daemen arrived on an orange Harley Davidson
- The bride and her father danced down the aisle (and so did the waiting groom)
- The couple have a strange love for Minions, so they had a family friend make a Minion cake topper for their giant cupcake (to go with the retro cupcakes served to the guests)
- There was ballroom dancing
- One of the groomsmen (the bride’s brother) split his pants before the ceremony and Grandma had to stitch them up!
- The caterer’s were a Greek street food style company that the bride and groom loved so much they hired the chef to cater their wedding. The food was soooooooo good!

It’s completely true that when I met Rosie at a Brisbane Bridal Expo in 2014 and she told me her wedding would be an O’Reilly’s Hinterland Wedding I told her I was going to shoot it for her. I love O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat. The views, the sunsets, the green and gold beauty. Ah-maz-ing! So I was stoked when Rosie and her fiance Pat decided I was the photographer for them.
Rosie and Pat are a cool couple. Laid back, slightly disorganised and into food. My kind of people. They also own a vintage car. Win!
So when it came to their wedding in October I was expecting cruisy, fun, colourful and a nice touch of DIY. I wasn’t disappointed. The day was perfect. The people, the laughs, the dress getting stuck in the brambles. All awesome. Then the sun set and I lost my mind. I mean, you could not have orchestrated this kind of beauty if you tried. Absolutely STUNNING!

They say it all happens at once. Well, it’s all happening at once over here at the moment!
On the back of a super busy wedding season, I have had the pleasure of being featured in a few wedding and bridal publications in the last few weeks. It’s really exciting seeing your images in print. No matter how many times it happens, I still get a kick out of it (even if I paid for advertising! I know, ridiculous, but true).
So here are the places you can find me right now. Well my imagery anyway. Right now I’m tucked away in my study with a glass of wine writing this post, but anyway, i digress (as usual).

Queensland Brides also have a little love for me with this editorial. They asked me for one of my favourite photos. This was the wedding of Sarah and Rob last December. I absolutely love this shot of Sarah’s Dad during the ceremony. Such a sweet moment I had the pleasure of witnessing. You can check out the rest of that wedding here.
I was also super lucky to be featured on the Queensland Brides blog the other day with a photo in their top 15 for 2015! This is from the wedding of Imogen and Dave and was a cracker of a wedding at the Sheraton Mirage Main Beach. Check out the Qld Brides Blog post here.
The Wedding Guide is another Publication that’s got the goods. I was lucky enough to have a couple of weddings feature in the current (and new) edition, as well as a few other morsels of loveliness throughout. One such wedding was that of Lauren and Tony. Any wonder, this wedding was amazing! Check out Lauren and Tony’s Branell Homestead wedding on my blog here, and purchase your copy of the Gold Coast edition of The Wedding Guide now!
