Tuesday Favourites >>> Wedding Dresses

It’s Tuesday Favourites time again! Let’s take a look at one of the all important features of a wedding day. The dress! I’ve seen just about every option, although I am yet to come across a Princess Leia in gold bikini number, which would be truly excellent I think we can all agree. Anyhoo, here are some of my favourite bridal options for the big day.

Big statements, subtle and sleek, colour explosions, it’s your day, your way.

The Traditional Gown

I love me a traditional wedding gown! Of course they’re not for everybody, I’m just the right body type for this sort of get up. Options are a-plenty with the traditional style gowns. Lace, satin, silk, tulle, train, no train, and necklines, sleeves and undergarments all make each dress unique and special. Then there’s the colour options, I could go on, but let’s look at some gowns shall we?

I absolutely adore Brianna’s dress. I slight blush colour underneath with ivory lace, this dress blew me away. Pretty sure Chris loved it too
Tulle at it’s finest. Liz and Lois both opted for gorgeous tulle gowns for their ceremonies. Tulle brings a softness to your images that no other fabric can.
Both quite traditional, yet completely different gowns. Natalie with an ivory silk and lace, and Ainslie with a full length satin embroidered dress with lavender accents
Lauren in her traditional style lace dress, and Rachael about to see her fiance on their wedding day for the first time in her satin and lace gown
Sharna nailed her gown choice with this dreamy full gown with tulle top layer and sheer bodice with button detail. Just stunning!
The Slim fit gown

There are many types of slim fitting gown for ladies who look fabulous in a gorgeous A line dress or mermaid tail. Here are some smashing examples.

Janet’s stunning Grace Loves Lace dress stole the show, perfect for her athletic build
Gorgeous Rosie in her chiffon and lace Wendy Makin dress. See her wedding on the blog here
Rebecca’s dress had some stunning details with the lace overlay and sheer top
Jess opted for a lace a line with spaghetti strap for her summer wedding, and Penny chose a lovely chiffon lace up with embroidery details
I love Maggie’s simple halter neck dress. It’s perfect for her body type and the flower crown really accentuates the whole outfit. Hollie’s slim fit with train and silver belt was just beautiful on her also
Sam looked gorgeous in her boho inspired lace a line and Karla rocked the hell out of her mermaid tail dress
A mermaid tail really complements the hip line and Sarah looked perfect in hers, as did Ashley
Megan’s Cue dress was absolutely gorgeous with it’s intricate beading details and Dani’s custom Wendy Makin dress made her look every bit the goddess she is
Retro Tea Length Winners

I love the retro look, and some brides just nail it. Team your tea length gown with a cool pair of chuck taylors or something a bit different and you’ve got a very unique wedding look. Hats off to these brides who dared to go retro.

Shona is a retro goddess in her tea length dress with glitter Chuck Taylors and 50’s hair style
Naomi’s burgundy hair and shoes teamed with this retro lace dress just worked. Right: Alex’s customised tea length gown and Shoes of Prey pumps were perfect together
This pretty much sums up Solua and Duncan’s wedding. Fun for days. Love these guys
Colour! Let it rip!

White isn’t always the answer when choosing a wedding dress. Go with something you love. If that means purple, pink or black and white, then my advice is go for it!

I could chat about this pink tulle dress from Hollywood Brides all day. This is perfection
See Nicola and James’ wedding on the blog here
Emma’s gold art deco dress was just stunning on her for her themed wedding. I adore this
This silver Truvelle dress worn by Shawn for her wedding to Shane was amazing. Such beautiful fabric
Mercedes chose this blush dress with an ivory overlay. Love it. Right: Alisha opted for a pop of blue embroidery on her satin gown
Marina’s black accents were the perfect addition to her and Grant’s city wedding. She also had blue soles on her shoes for a hidden pop of colour
Amelia loves purple and so do I. Excellent choice for her relaxed wedding to Eoin
Something Different?

Anyone who knows me knows I love something different. A bit of fun, something that bucks the norm, even if it’s an accessory, not only makes my day but it makes your day your very own. Never be afraid to do what you want, like these brides.

THIS DRESS! Katie and Daemen are ballroom dancers so naturally there was always going to be a gown worn, but peach? YES girl! Love, love love her style!
My good friend Renee wore this sensational silver boho dress for her wedding. It’s just stunning! Right: Kirsten wore a lace top and tulle skirt for something different, and rocked it
Kerri had her wedding dress custom made from some fabric she loved for her backyard wedding to Peter, and it just worked perfectly. Love this
Tanya in her Anna Campbell delight for a touch of art deco meets boho. This designer constantly blows my mind. Check her out on Insta @annacampbellbridal
Tanya and Jared’s wedding is on the blog here
We had a bunch of fun with Penny and Mark and the hidden gems under her dress

So here we are. When shopping for dresses, go for something you love. Don’t let anyone tell you what you can and can’t do, and BE COMFORTABLE! There’s so much out there to choose from so you can make your day your own, go for it and don’t hold back. On a budget or thousands to spend, it doesn’t matter. As long as your dress suits you, you’re going to look fabulous and feel like a million dollars and it will shine through in your photos. Oh yes, and hire a professional wedding photographer to capture every moment and angle!
