Garden Wedding of Tim & Katrin

Tim and Katrin are a lovely couple. They made plans to be married in a garden wedding at Northview Gardens in Taieri. Come wedding day however, mother nature had other plans, as one of the windiest days (bar cyclones) I’ve ever experienced happened instead. The decision was made quickly to move the ceremony to around the lovely pond on the other side of the venue, and nothing seemed to be a problem for either the vendors or the couple. So improvise we did, and a wonderful day was had by all. Sure, the bride needed to put on a puffer jacket between location shots, but then, that’s Otago in January for you!

Katrin’s family had travelled from Germany for her special day, while Tim had relatives fly in from other parts of the country. That’s what I love about weddings. They bring people together. There were some small language barriers, but the love of two people meant that everyone was on the same page, we were all there to celebrate their union. Katrin’s parents introduced us to a German tradition of writing notes to the couple and attaching them to balloons which were released. Being that the wind was gusting at over 50km an hour made for scenes of chaos and hilarity at the release. God I love the unpredictability of weddings!

Katrin and Tim decided to do their day, their way, so a first look was fantastic to calm nerves and get everybody in the mood to celebrate. There was also a casual approach to food and drinks, with the lovely ladies from Oxford St Caravan Bar serving drinks on the lawn and caterers keeping the guests fed with canapes and grazing plates. Lawn games were played, drinks were flowing and a good time was had by all.
